Here's How To Have Great Conversations With Clients
VOLUME 2
Whether it's a new client or an established one, it's not always easy to have a fun, relaxing conversation while you're concentrating on his or her hair. But here are some tips to help you get a good conversation going:
- First things first: Be sure you have consulted with clients on their service needs. You should thoroughly understand what clients expect and they should thoroughly understand what you're going to do. (Use photos whenever possible.)
- If clients are new, never make bad comments about their current hairstyle, hair condition, or the products they use.
- Smile. Smiling will not only put your client at ease, but make talking together easier.
- Make eye contact. Let a client know you're interested in what they're saying. Ask open-ended questions; that is, questions that require more than a "yes" or "no" answer.
- Don't discuss your personal problems. Be sympathetic if the client wants to discuss a personal problem, but don't give an opinion or offer advice.
- Be a good listener and don't interrupt.
- Be alert to the client's mood. You might be making your best conversation attempts, but if your client is in a quiet mood, it's probably best to leave the chat for next time.
- Avoid discussing politics or religion. People often have very strong feelings about these topics. You don't want to say the wrong thing.
